Two vignettes

1. This morning on our way back from the park, Pooka and I came across some Energy Australia workmen who'd set up their stuff underneath a new telegraph (electicity? Telephone? Cable? Light?) pole. They were starting off with breakfast and were sitting around on chairs on the footpath enjoying their meal. I noticed that they had a microwave... plugged into the mains? I'm not sure... It made me smile all the same. And I wondered what the Sydney Water people bring out when they're sitting around having breakfast.

2. A friend just sent me an essay to read. I noticed that the extension was .docx, but my word processor opened it fine. Apparently it's the new Office extension and Office 2003 can't deal with it (I guess that's not surprising). But Pages for Mac can. That made me smile as well. Yay Pages!

progress

Tonight a friend and I ate dinner while watching tv, with the food at Pooka-accessible height and Pooka in the room. Although the poor beast was sorely tempted, she lay down on command and stayed there the whole time! Amazing.

And she only beat up one dog today. A 4th generation labradoodle. We're working on the beating up thing. Getting better! Apparently she's in her rebellious adolescent phase at the moment. But I can see vast improvements in her behaviour. Which is good, because we've been truanting obedience classes for quite a while now.

In other news, I only have a few more days on this rotation then move on to one at a posh private hospital. Ooooh. Noice. Only two more four-week rotations, then stuvac, then an exam, then 2 weeks of holidays, then FOURTH YEAR.

Which means I'd better get my act together with organising electives...

somewhere in the house, a black beast lurks

So Pooka is a lot better at being inside now. There is absolutely no way she could be left inside with no-one at home, but she is generally not TOO bad.

It does concern me though when I know she's inside and all is quiet and she doesn't come when I call...

But then she eventually comes with something amusing in her mouth. The porcelain mug was my favourite. I couldn't tell her to drop it, because she might have. But at the same time I had to retrieve it somehow. Tricky!

And I am still alive. Just busy. Only 11 weeks until stuvac! It has been said that third year is a bit of a hard slog. I can see why. It's just rotation after rotation after rotation with all sorts of stupid assignments and good ones, and no holidays and big assessments looming on the horizon.

I am currently posting some more Pooka photos on Flickr. I can't post one here because the uploader is taking its sweet time shoving them through the internet pipes. Hence I suppose that if you are too quick to click on the link they may not have arrived yet! That would be unfortunate. Hmmm but as flickr seems to be going very slowly, it seems that there is currently no danger of that.

In other news, I now have two plastic goats. Also a new donkey and a pelican.

a carload of fun

So the brother is housesitting at the moment for a guy from the dog park who has an 11 year old golden retriever called Pinot. Pinot needs to be driven to the park. And due to car swapping issues and dog-compatible cars and whatnot, on Thursdays I have to drive Pooka and Pinot and my brother to the park. It's very hard to take both dogs to the park with only one person. They travel at rather different paces.

Hence I have to fit a very large dog, a medium sized dog and a brother in the car.

... when the Simpsons is not on because Big Brother is going overtime! What is so important about a group of bogans acting like idiots? Why should this delay my viewing?!

Update on angry running man with stick: he hit a small white dog with a stick, the owner reported him to the council. The next day a council officer came to the park to find him but he didn't show. Apparently he has also been impersonating a council officer and police officer and handing out fines to dog owners. The relevant authorities now know his name and address however there hasn't been much progress since then.

And you know who's to blame? I think it might be Grammar Girl. The first time I've seen her in months and she passes on her plague! Yeah, friends. All about sharing.

All my holiday plans! Destroyed! I will have to lie in bed, coughing feebly and moaning. And poor Pooka! Who will walk her! She'll have to expend all her energy destroying the fence and then she'll eat it and get internal splinters and she'll also go mad from lack of contact with dogs. And then I'll have to take her to a home for the rehabilitation of crazy dogs.

I suppose it could have been someone else...
