No, it’s not big news J … not actually planning on that sort of big news so don’t hold your breath!
I did get a mothers day present from JD the blue heeler however …. Apparently he had the urge to get in the LandRover and hoon off to Burnie and get me a pressy – nice of him, don’t you think?
As well as a lovely card with a big muddy footprint, I received a 320GB external hard drive – yay! – for the purpose of saving all our photos and otherwise useful items which we would be devastated to lose.
Very very nice!
Now comes the not so fabulous task of going through all the items that we’ve copied (I mean the originals on the laptop) and deleting all those that I’m not too paranoid about – ‘cause the paranoid ones are staying on the computer, trust me J …. Yes, I know, I have at least three DVD backups of the wedding photos, now a copy on the Hard drive … I can probably get rid of them … but I can’t help being paranoid :)
the sun is out, hooray, and I've done the vacuuming. The second load of washing is on, the house is dusted and the bathrooms cleaned, I've had lunch, and now it's time to GARDEN.
PS My parents went and saw Ir*n Man on Wednesday night, they loved it, and said the shorts for the new Indiana Jones movie coming up were AWESOME .... anything else out lately that anyone recommends?
did I mention that all the gnomes disappeared a couple of weeks ago? One day they were there, next morning all gone! There were probably 15 or so statues at it's height, including a frog, a polar bear, a worm, fairies, a castle, and lots of gnomes (including one with a solar powered lamp - very cheesy :))
I wasn't really too fussed as it had lasted a lot longer than I thought it would. I fully expected to see the first gnome thrown onto the road after a week, but it just kept growing, and people loved it! A few people we knew were actually quite indignant that they'd gone - and one even phoned the Council to see if they'd 'cleaned them up' - not guilty ... it's still a mystery as to where they'd gone because ... some of them are back!
Yes, we drove out last Saturday to see a big sign saying, simply, 'Why?' at the base of the tree.
As we came back in we saw an addition had been made "Why did you take our gnomes?"
Sunday morning ... there was a gnome!!!!!!
Sunday afternoon - two gnomes and the original frog!
Now there are about 6 gnome and the frog ... I'm going to drive up tomorrow sometime and take a few more pics .....
And today, in the Letters to the Editor of the local rag ... a letter about the gnomes disappearing!!!
I smile every time I think about :), it's all too funny .. and all started with a $2 dwarf/gnome I bought in Mittagong at Christmas!
I haven't sent my mum's mothers day card (it's Mother's Day on Sunday ie tomorrow!), I haven't organised to either buy or send her present, I haven't sent my oldest friend's birthday card (it's on Tuesday, mail will take at least 5 days from Tasmania to NSW - I don't understand why either), I'm feeling about three weeks behind.
On the up side ... I have GOT a card for my mum - and Mr Tasmania's mum. He's organising his mum's present. I have contacted my sister in law and I'm going halves in the present she buys. I'll phone mum tomorrow and tell her the card's in the mail! Will send the friend's card on Monday and phone her on the day.
And it's also Mr Tasmania's birthday on Tuesday and I'm organised for that at least! Presents either here or on their way.
Phew!
Hopefully I can use this weekend to get it all together :)
lovely morning, local markets, good coffee, Sunday papers, bought a Tibouchina to assist in colorizing the front hedge, had a chat with friends, home for lunch, jobs and things, afternoon tea with friends, home to do jobs in the garden etc, drink with next door neighbours (as it started to rain), off to dinner with other friends.
we're not going to church today, a music pastor from my old church in Sydney is down here preaching and, to be honest, I've got nothing against her but I'm not actually interesting in anything she has to say. I think I"m at a point in my life where I'm interested in Bible teaching, more exposition and hermaneutics, and practical application to living my life, rather than the joys of worship - believe me, I understand the joys of worship, love it, quite happy not to be preached to about it by someone who's worship style I've never quite believed.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not bagging her, I'm not saying she's a fake, I'm not saying I don't like her - truly - I'm just not interested in anything she has to say, if I'm honest. She is a fabulous singer, guitarist, song writer ... and has a lot to say to the church.
It's interesting actually, that there are preachers/pastors/ministers/leaders in the church and quite often there is horror if you voice a seemingly negative opinion. There is a very popular prophetic minister who has preached within my church movement for years and all his preaching is immensely well attended, perfectly Biblical, amazing proven prophecies etc - and he's a man I like personally, I've had a good chat with him once, he's a lovely man - but I CAN'T STAND his preaching - I really can't - I basically leave if he starts talking. Like fingernails on the blackboard. I guess, like everything, some things we like, some things give us the pip! :)
anyway ... it's one of those kind of almost rainy almost sunny days, can't quite make up it's mind. So I'm going to put the washing out in full knowledge that it will probably get rained on ... because it mightn't ...
And then I'm going to start my little boring list of house things to do - and then, hopefully, I'll get out in the shack garden and do some much needed weeding - we've had rain, and it's still relatively warm for the beginning of May in North West Tasmania, so of course all the weeds and grass is growing like the clappers! The BroBoss and ChilliGirl will be down here in a fortnight and I'd kind of like it to look as if I've made SOME sort of an effort.
Mr Tasmania and JD are out on a bacon hunt ...... porridge, crumpets, or toast apparently don't cut it on the weekend, it's poached eggs and bacon all the way!
I got out of bed at 7:15am today, almost a two hour sleep in (yay!), Mr Tasmania took JD for a walk at 7am and got the paper, I got organised, he WAS organised, we were out of the house by 8:45am - not bad. We went to Wynyard, where Mr Tasmania put some clear sealant on the paint job he'd done on his dads car, whilst I took the (slightly over excited!) blue heeler for a half hour walk around town.
He did really well, peed on so many things that he ran himself dry about 10 minutes before we got back!, met a Dalmatian and had a bit of a chat, and coped well with lots of traffic - he's a farm dog who lives in a very small village and doesn't see lots of traffic at once very often - three cars in a row is BIG - so I was really pleased.
We then went up to the Block, Mr Tasmania put the trailer on the landrover, and we got out the rideon mower - I mowed, he went and picked up a metre of fine pine bark.
We put all the bark over old cardboard boxes, flattened and stabbed, which was placed around the first five grevilleas on the right hand side of our driveway. We'd done the original 10 grevilleas a week or two after they were planted (a year ago this month), and did the camellia at the top of the driveway but it is well and truly time we started on the rest so we made a start this weekend. Probably 4 - 8 inches of mulch over the cardboard should keep most of the 'orrible weeds down, we hope! It does look gorgeous though - I would say go and check my flickr site except for the fact that I forgot to take the camera :)
I went and got lunch around 2pm and we ate it sitting on my lovely green wire chairs with our feet on logs outside our shed, in the sun, looking at our beautiful view - and admiring our well behaved dog who was very polite and didn't jump at any food, just tried to look soulful and hard done by :)
Mr Tasmania finished off the mowing and we headed back home - and had time for him to clean out the landrover (removing evidence of DOG) and I did a bit of pruning and laid out the first of the white stones in the kitchen garden. They're my trial stones, just to see if my idea will work - and it will, they look great! Read a bit of the paper then off for a lovely walk along the beach, getting back just on dark (6pm) and now relaxing, finishing the paper, had dinner, VERY satisfied with our day.
