Voting is now open to decide the winners of the 2003 Wibsite Awards. You've got until Sunday 25th, so there should be enough time to click on all those links.
Wibby Nominations - open until Thursday 8th January
(Wibby, January 3, 2004, 11:56 am)
Welcome to the 2003 Wibsite Awards.
The Wibsite Awards are all internet-related (rather than 'favourite band', 'favourite municipal carpark' etc) and reflect the 'Creativity - Community - Faith' flavour of the Wibsite. Some of the categories are Wibsite and most especially Wiblog-specific, others are more general.
The idea is that anyone is welcome to suggest posts and sites that fit into the different categories - simply reply in the 'comments' section of each category post putting the address of the site (including the http:// ) and the name of the site and anything you want to say about it in the 'comment' box. The comments don't accept html - but as long as you include a 'http://' writing the address will make a link. To find the address of a Wiblog post click the 'Permalink' link underneath the post, then copy the address in your address bar.
We'll take submissions of sites until the end of Thursday 8th January, then the Editorial Team will peruse them with a fine tooth-comb and a well-used hairbrush and come up with a shortlist. Then there will be the opportunity to vote to decide who wins a coveted Wibby.
There will be prizes for the winners - a copy of the forthcoming Wibsite Calendar and an award logo to dispay on your site. If anyone wants to offer any other prizes please let us know!
We've been told many times that the Wibsite is 'odd'. Once or twice it was even meant as a compliment. This category celebrates the very best of Wiblogular oddness. An opportunity for those very special posts that are slightly stranger than even our average to be recognised.
Far be it from the Wibsite to encourage Wibloggers to misuse their employer's computing resources to "pen" their "words" of "wisdom". Except at lunchtime that is. This award is designed to honour those desk-bound Wibloggers who achieved outstanding feats of prosemanship in their lunch-hours. That's between 12:00 and 14:00, by the way, except where local conditions vary.
You may think that you've done your bit, trudging through some of the 3000+ posts that Wibloggers have made during the course of 2003. Spare a thought, though, for those who have gone above and slightly to the side of the call of duty in writing those posts. Hence this category, to acknowledge those roving reporters and brave adventurers who went to extraordinary and/or alarming lengths to bring you their extra-special Wiblog posts. Think of it as the Extreme Wiblogging award.
Who to nominate: Wibloggers who look like someone famous and/or someone famous who looks like a Wiblogger.
Some of these Wibloggers look quite like other people Some of these Wibloggers look nearly the same
But one of these Wibloggers probably looks more like someone famous than any other Wiblogger
Now it's time to nominate
Before we abandon this failed parody
What to nominate: Christian sites that you think are funny
The Wibsite, of course, strides the Christian humour landscape like a colossus, but we have been told that other Christian humour sites are available, and some of them might be quite good. Use this category to nominate the (intentionally) funniest thing you saw on a Christian site this year, or the best Christian humour site you saw in 2003.
What to nominate: Christian blogs outside the Wibsite
There are thousands of Christian bloggers out there. Whether your favourite is well-recognised or virtually unknown, let their light shine from under their bushel and let us know about them. If you're stuck for ideas for nominations, Blogs4God is as good a place as any to start.
Throwing the net even wider over the, er, net, this award is designed to honour those Christians that have enlightened and entertained us on the Internet in 2003. It's open to personal sites and collaborative efforts, evangelical sites, liberal sites, and all points of the Christian spectrum in between.
Long-established favourites or undiscovered gems - any and every page on the web is fair game for this category. Whether it's humorous, serious, useful or useless, if you think it's the best thing you've seen on the Internet in the past 12 months, we'd like to hear about it. Except if it might fall into the category of...
...which covers a very special section of the Interweb. Seen a link that's bad in a good way? Seen a link that's good in a bad way? Seen a link that's so bad in a good way that it goes right the way through being bad and ends up being good in a bad way, then goes right through again and winds up being bad in a - what? Oh, sorry. Anyway, annoying links of 2003: nominate them here. This category is not to be confused with...
The strange, the curious, the just plain different. We're looking for websites which stand out from the rest as being brilliantly, distinctively odd. Nominate them for this category, and you can make them the Wibsite's Internet Oddity of the Year 2003.
Hello, Welcome and other Award-type things that people say at these sort of events. The 2003 Wibbys are on their way, awarding awards to the best of various sorts of things. Stay tuned for the list of Categories, your chance to nominate nominations and the bit at the end where we fix the results. Or were we letting people vote, I forget.
