The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them, ”I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.”
And so the servants did so and the guests began to come to the feast.
When the first guest arrived he saw that the car park was full and so drove down the street looking for a parking space. But it was all ‘Residents Parking Only’. So he drove around a few more streets to see if there was any space there. Eventually, having failed to park and having completely lost the venue in any case he went home and put a ready meal for one into the microwave.
The second guest arrived but tried the door and found that it was locked although she could hear that plenty was going on inside. So she went round to the side door and tried that but to no avail. She went round to the back of the building where there was a fire exit but no way of getting in through it from the outside. She tried the front door again, this time knocking and then hammering on it loudly, but no-one heard. So she gave up and left, stopping for fish and chips on the way home.
The third guest turned up and the whole building was dark and not a soul was in sight. So he got out his invitation and checked to see whether he had the right place, date and time and found that he did. So, having concluded that there must have been a change of plan that he hadn’t been told about he left and went to McDonald’s instead.
