moving...
by clare
It
will be an interesting week ahead in the dwelling of the clare, one involving
much upheaval, sideheaval and possibly even downheaval. We're talking boxes,
bags, charity shops, bonfires and a minibus. We're talking moving. One of the
best things about the whole packing process is that you find so much stuff
that you lost so long ago that you had forgotten it even existed. Very novel
to be finding things rather that losing things, and I thought it merited a
shared celebration. So come, travel with me though the muddle of the week and
partake in the joy of my discoveries.
Day one
(Actually
this took place last Thursday. The emotion overcame me so much i had to take a
weekend break by the sea to revive me).
One completely unrepairable
camera.
One £5 Boots voucher
One £10 Waterstones voucher
One set of photos that I took on behalf of a Pakistani friend of him
visiting the sights of london and I never sent it on (2 and a half years
ago... it co-incided with my last move). This one carries a MAJOR MAJOR guilt
factor.
A rather amusing bit of paper where a friend and I wrote down
all the jobs we might like to do. One scenario had her running a bakery and me
a steam bath rooms... next door to each other would be good... the ultimate
feel good experience.
A slide film, unfortunately without the pre-paid
processing envelope.
Day two
Two out of three juggling
balls.
A small black purse stuffed full of two and one pence pieces.
A calculator down the side of a bed, a relic of late night telephone
bill computations no doubt.
A variety of novelty erasers, including
one from the Rare Breeds Trust, a visit I'm sure I made with my middle school.
One empty film canister. One film canister with an unidentified creamy
substance in it. Odds on it's sun tan lotion.
A whistle in the shape
of a twig. Or a twig in the shape of a whistle, however you want to look at
it.
Day three
(No financially enriching items this
time.)
One roll of green cellophane.
A packet of Calinforium Poppy
seeds.
A file of bank statements 1991 - 1997.
A box of pins
Some fleecy material - green one side, purple the other
A
small chocolate egg
Day four
All in all not so many
hidden surprises yesterday, but I did find: one florescent yellow shoe lace
with batman logos all the way along. This is actually very useful for tying up
things and generally too bright to be lost (though it was this time).
The original idea bit of paper for lostglove.com
A box of mugs
and glasses still wrapped up in newspaper from the last move and never
unpacked due to my housemates already having too much in the way of
kitchenware.
Day five
The third juggling ball
Loads, simply loads of tea bags... and assortment of flavours. some of
these were neatly boxed, as they should be, in the food cupboard in the
kitchen. But many were randomly found in various drawers and piles of things.
Another box of pins (spilt)
A water bag down the back of the
radiator.
A stress squeezy balloony type object. Just the thing to
calm you down during a hard working packing session. Until you realise that
your freshly packed box now has cascades of flour like stuff trickling into
ever nook and cranny. Stress balls. Not necessarily stress free.
A
cloth for covering chappattis.
Nail clippers number 4.
And
finally. Much dust. As numerous as the decendants of Abraham I shouldn't
wonder.
The site received many letters about clare's move. here are
one or two:
From Mr Mauro Giannelli:

Welcome to my

with such inspiration. It lifts my spirit in its hour of darkness (or while
I'm waiting for the tea to boil - delete as appropriate).
I am little
intrigued, please share a little bit of your profession Mauro. Is mine a case
of shared profits?
